  • Document new Registrations in e.g. a Matrix Channel
  • Limit the amount of new accounts in a given time frame. E.g. 4x the avg new accounts a day.
  • Delete new users that never interacted with the instance after 1week. (no repo, no interactions on issue, ...)

If you define inactivity like this, I would say give them a month.

And clearly state this rule somewhere during the registration process, or remind them by e-mail that their account will be deleted

Yeah, being on holiday and coming back to deleted account seems a bit too restrictive. :)

@daniel.gerber As far as I understand, this is only for new accounts. So if you used your account in the first week/month at least once, you can go on holiday. This measure should only prevent people from creating empty accounts in bulk and then using them later for malicious purposes.
